Marie Curie
Marie Curie was a Polish scientist who won a Nobel prize in both Chemistry and Physics. She made ground-breaking work in the field of Radioactivity.
During the First World War, Curie developed the practical use of X-Rays; she also discovered two new elements, polonium and radium. Her pioneering scientific work was made more remarkable because of the discrimination which existed against women in science at the time. She was the first female professor at the University of Paris and broke down many barriers for women in science.
She was born on 7 November 1867, Warsaw Poland. She was the youngest of five children and was brought up in a poor but well-educated family. Marya excelled in her studies and won many prizes.
Marya took an interest in Chemistry and Biology and so she went to Paris, where she was able to study at the Sorbonne. It was in Paris that she met Pierre Curie, who was a scientist too. Pierre was smitten with the young Marya and asked her to marry him.

She was known for her modest and frugal lifestyle. During the First World War, she offered her Nobel Prizes to the French Treasury.

Marie Curie died in 1934 from Cancer. It was an unfortunate side effect of her own ground-breaking studies into radiation which were to help so many people.

A modern day Valentine's card
The first Valentine's cards were sent in the 18th century.
Initially these were handmade efforts, as pre-made cards were not yet available. Lovers would decorate paper with romantic symbols, including flowers and love knots.

One day he came to a small village and met a man who lived in a cave next to the village. The hermit told the knight about the awful things that were happening there.
A terrible dragon had come to live in the lake and attacked the village every day.
The villagers didn’t know what to do.

So then the villagers gave the dragon all the animals from their farms. The dragon took all the animals, but continued to attack the villagers. So then they gave the dragon all their gold and jewels. The dragon took all their money, but still was not satisfied.
The king sent his army to try and capture the dragon, but the dragon was too strong and the knights of the army were too scared and they ran away.
With nothing left to give, the king could only think of one thing to help protect his people. He sent his only daughter, the princess, to the lake to wait for the dragon. When George heard this he rode as fast as he could to the lake.
Just then the dragon jumped out from the lake and was going to eat the princess. George attacked the dragon. He fought very bravely, won the fight and killed the dragon.
George and the princess returned to the village and everyone was very pleased that they would have no more problems with the dragon.
Today, the story of George’s bravery is remembered and George is known as the patron saint of many countries.Image result for george and dragon

Bertie
SANTA CLAUS DOES NOT FORGET
Bertie was a very good boy. He was kind, obedient and nice to his little sister. Unfortunately he had one big fault: he had a habit of forgetting!
It was strange how often he forgot. He forgot to do things his mother asked him.
He always said < Oh sorry, I forgot! >.
